Switching off Facebook in-stream video and Reels overlay ads

Keep an ad set out of two Facebook positions without Ads Manager

An ad set with chosen placements can keep its ads out of two Facebook positions: Facebook in-stream videos (ads in the middle of other people's videos) and Ads on Facebook Reels (the small ads shown over Reels). Every other Facebook position stays on.

On the web

  1. Open the campaign, then edit the ad set (or add a new one).
  2. Open Advanced and tick the platforms to use, for example Facebook and Instagram.
  3. Under Facebook positions, untick the positions to switch off, then save.
  4. If the ad set already runs on Meta, PromoPilot changes it there straight away.

Good to know

  • It needs Facebook among the ticked platforms. With automatic placements (no box ticked) Meta picks every position, so PromoPilot asks you to choose the platforms first.
  • Unticking Audience Network keeps the ads out of other apps and websites.
  • Through the API or the MCP server, set excluded_facebook_positions on the ad set to instream_video and/or facebook_reels_overlay, or [] to switch them back on.
