Playbook builder

Lay out, explain and test a playbook's steps

The playbook builder (Visual Builder on a playbook's page) shows a playbook as a flow, top to bottom, in the order a run takes the steps.

Reading the flow

  • The trigger sits at the top (Starts when). Each time it fires, one person starts a run.
  • A run goes down the line one step at a time and stops at Run ends.
  • If / Else splits the line into Yes and No, Split test into paths chosen at random by weight, and Go to step jumps to another step.
  • Continues at means the path carries on at a step drawn elsewhere; Back to means it goes back up and repeats.
  • Steps nothing leads to are drawn on the right under Never runs.

Editing

  • Click the + on a line to add a step at exactly that point, or drag a step from the list onto a +. On smaller screens use Add step.
  • Click a step to open its settings. Each step explains what it does, fields have hints, and buttons under message boxes insert merge fields such as {{ contact.first_name }} and {{ context.last_reply }}.
  • Click a step's name to rename it. Move, duplicate or delete it from the bottom of its settings; deleting sends anything that went to it on to the next step.
  • Undo and redo with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z.

Checking, testing and saving

  • Problems show on their step, with a red mark when they would stop a run.
  • Test step runs one step with sample data; Test run plays the whole flow and sends nothing.
  • Save publishes a new version at once; runs already going keep theirs.
PromoPilot AI: "Build the flow for me" writes every step from a description (5 credits); "Ask for a change" edits the flow from a message (1 credit a message).
